
When the database opens, the Basic Search Screen is automatically displayed. You can enter your search terms on this screen or go to the Advanced Search Screen for additional search options. Both screens provide access to the entire database.
Searching
Basic Search
Check off the appropriate date range and type a word or phrase on the Words
in Article line. Use "and" if your subject has more than one aspect.

Advanced Search
Click the Advanced Search tab to Use More Search Criteria on the
Search screen to specify other information such as subjects(s) or
publications for the articles you wish to find by typing terms in the
appropriate line. Use "or" to find articles with either term; use "and"
to find articles with both terms. Examples:
Words in Article:
schools or education
Geographic Location(s): New Mexico
Ethnic Group of Pub: native people
People (Names):
John Major and John Bruton
Publication Name: Irish Voice
You can also view and choose from a list of terms available on each line, i.e., names of the publications, subject headings, or people included in Ethnic NewsWatch, by clicking on the blue labels for each line and following screen directions.
Truncation
Use the asterisk (*) to search for all words starting with a particular root.
Example:
medic* finds medics, medical, medicine, etc.
Viewing Search Results
After a search is submitted, a Summary of Search Results is displayed as
brief citations to articles. View the whole article by clicking on the article
title in blue text.
To refine the search or start a new search, click Find on the right-hand margin to return to the search screen.
Marking Records to Print or
Download
Articles can be printed or downloaded one at a time, or in groups. To do one at
a time, display desired article. To do more than one, select desired articles
from the Summary of Search Results by clicking to check the box to the
left of each citation.
Next, click Print/Export in the left margin. Follow screen directions to indicate what format you'd like, and which articles, and click OK. Article(s) will be re-displayed without headers or margin text. With article(s) re-displayed, click the File button at the top left, and pull down to:
